Our company philosophy is simple: Introduce people to the amazing sport of fly fishing; provide an enriching experience to new and experienced anglers; promote environmental stewardship of our amazing fisheries; and serve our local communities–especially the underprivileged.
Tailwater Outfitters, LLC is fully licensed (License #3325), bonded, and insured as an outfitter in the state of Colorado. We provide guided fly fishing trips to the South Platte river system and the Arkansas River tailwater at Pueblo. All of the guides we hire are the best in the area. They know where the fish are and will show you what flies to use and the techniques to catch them. All of our trips are walk and wade, meaning, we’ll throw on some boots and waders and wade into the river to fish the prime spots. We provide all the gear necessary for a day of fishing, which includes: boots, waders, rod and reel, and terminal tackle (flies, indicators, weight, etc.). If you prefer to use your own gear, by all means use it. If you book a full day with us, we provide lunch. Safety is our number one priority and require that all of our guides have current first aid certifications from the American Red Cross.
The Tailwater Outfitters origin story begins when our founders Anthony and Carlos met up on the river to fly fish one cool summer morning. It was their first time meeting and only days before Carlos had been looking for a guide to teach him and some family members how to get better at catching fish on the fly. Carlos booked with a local fly shop and was told his fly fishing guide would be Anthony. Anthony and Carlos struck a friendship immediately and began hitting the water together almost every weekend over the next year and a half. The pair pushed each other on getting better at learning new fly fishing techniques, refining existing skills, and finding fish. Anthony was guiding full time for a local shop during the summers and Carlos was passionate about introducing friends and family to this amazing sport. With some encouragement from friends and family, and the blessing of Anthony’s fly shop, they took the leap and formed Tailwater Outfitters, LLC. Learn more about our founders below.
Anthony Jimenez
Have you ever met someone that fly fishes so much that they’ve developed tennis elbow? Well meet Anthony! Anthony grew up fishing urban lakes and rivers throughout central California. In 2009 he moved to Southern Colorado and spends his time chasing freshwater fish on the fly or creating new fly patterns to test out. He is a friendly and passionate guide who loves to teach the sport of fly fishing to all, regardless of their skill level. Whether you’re just starting or an experienced angler you will be sure to learn something new on a guided trip with him. Anthony gets as much joy in seeing someone catch a fish as he does for himself when he lands one. He currently resides in Pueblo, CO with his girlfriend and their two dogs. When not guiding you will be sure to find him in Southern Colorado’s waters chasing trout, bass, walleye, catfish, or anything else that will take a fly. Expect to have a fun time, lot’s of fish stories, good snacks, and a great time chasing fish with Anthony.
Carlos Muro
Carlos grew up fishing in mountain lakes and creeks in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. Growing up you could find him fishing before, during, and after school. Time in the military, college, and work kept him away from the water for more time than he’d like to admit until a fortunate work opportunity allowed him and his family to relocate to Colorado Springs to be near family. It wasn’t until a fateful trip to a local dude ranch in Almont, CO that Carlos was introduced to fly fishing. He immediately fell in love with the sport and learned everything he could about it. Carlos learned how to tie his own flies and build his own leaders; and with the skills he had from fishing in the Sierras he quickly learned how to find fishy water and catch fish on the fly. Carlos is patient and friendly when guiding and gets a thrill in seeing people catch their first fish using a fly rod! When not out on the water Carlos spends his time with his wife and kids.
Teresa Barber
Teresa was learning how to chase fish on a fly long before it became cool for girls to fly fish. She grew up learning and then as an adult in the military enjoyed having the opportunity to get away up to the mountains to relax and recuperate with a fly rod in her hand. She is affectionately known as the “fun aunt” for taking all the little people in her life out to the water to get them fly fishing. She loves to take other disabled veterans out and get them on the water to find peace from PTSD and other physical ailments. Having overcome injuries and illness herself, she has a unique perspective and ability to help people gain access to the water and fishing regardless of physical ability. Whether you’re 5 or 50, with a fly rod in hand and a fish on the line, you’re a kid at heart! In addition to helping her clients hook fish, she takes pride in capturing those memories in great photos for them to take away with when they leave the water. Teresa lives in Colorado Springs, when she’s not working or guiding, you can find her watching sports, working out, hiking, cooking, or jamming out on the guitar!
